Summertime Herbal Remedies

beHealthy Institute
40 Main St, Hamburg 14075

Wednesdays, July 12th & July 19th

6:30 pm – 8:15 pm

Cost:  $35/class (samples, supplies, handouts and recipes included)

Each season offers a new array of local medicinal plants that can support wellness. In this two-part class, Community Herbalist Sarah Sorci will introduce you to local medicinal plants that can be harvested in summertime. We will discuss identification, safe use, recipes, and sustainable harvest for each species. We will even sample an herbal cocktail!

Week 1: We will focus on wild chickweed, self-heal, red clover, plantain, St. John’s Wort and jewelweed, learning how to safely use these plants for salads, antiviral support, supporting menopause and a healthy menstrual cycle, poison ivy first aid, balanced mood, and more. Participants will sample preparations made with these herbs, and take home recipes.

Week 2: Learn to support the respiratory system and prepare for cold and flu season with local mullein, boneset, bee balm, yarrow, lemon balm, and elder. Some of these plants make safe and delicious teas and foods (or even herbal cocktails!). Others should be used short-term. Learn to incorporate these abundant plants into a healthy lifestyle.

Participants will take home herbs, supplies and directions to prepare their own herbal tincture. All are welcome.
