Plants are time machines. They allow us to smell what our ancestors smelled and taste what they savored. While culture and technology are changing quickly for many people, plants and nature offer tangible continuity between our lives and those of generations past.
Living Ancestry: Connecting with Cultural Heritage through Plants, Nature, and our Senses provides easy-to-do exercises, meditations, original artwork, poetry, and short essays that foster stronger ancestral ties by way of the natural world.
This book is intended to be accessible to anyone, including those who were raised far from their ancestral lands. Rather than focusing on one cultural lineage, Living Ancestry highlights common threads that run through many cultures. 5% of the income from every Lumia Box goes to the Seneca Nation of Indians, whose homeland I’m living and working on. The Seneca Iroquois National Museum & Cultural Center offers a wealth of knowledge and wisdom to the public, and I’m honored to support their work through this project. Learn in person at their beautiful Salamanca, NY location, or check out their website.
