Edible + Medicinal Plant Walk

  • Chestnut Ridge Park Orchard Park, New York USA (map)

Chestnut Ridge Park, Shelter #4A

Optional: bring bagged lunch and stay after to chat

Explore the diverse plant life at Chestnut Ridge with Community Herbalist Sarah Sorci. We’ll get acquainted with WNY plants that prefer sunny lawns, water’s edge, shady woodlands, and the spaces in between.

Beginner-friendly—and experienced attendees are welcome to share their knowledge if they’re so moved!

On this leisurely stroll, we’ll discuss:

  • Plant identification

  • Ways to use each plant in cooking and/or as a remedy

  • Tidbits about the plants’ medicinal properties

  • Traditional uses and cultural stories

You’ll leave feeling comfortable identifying a range of useful plants, and you’ll know whether there are poisonous look-alikes to watch out for in our region.

We’ll discuss environmental contamination considerations when harvesting wild plants, as well as sustainable harvesting practices.

Registration fee: $20.

If you don’t have childcare, feel free to bring your kids at no additional charge. Adults are the intended audience, but kids often enjoy themselves, too!
