Cost: $29 includes recipes, many samples, and herb seed packet
Whether splashed into a cocktail or used medicinally before meals, bitters have an array of health benefits for the human body. Throughout our history, the human gastrointestinal tract (and several other body systems) developed a complex relationship with bitterness– including special bitter receptors– and our bodies require this flavor for healthy functioning.
As we sample bitter tinctures and cocktail recipes, Community Herbalist Sarah Sorci will explore the range of effects that bitterness has on the body, including stimulation of digestive secretions, improved absorption of nutrients and fats, support of healthy blood glucose levels and weight, stress management, and more. Sarah will describe the specific properties of some of her favorite herbs, focusing on those that can be cultivated or sustainably wild-harvested in New York State.
Participants will take home a seed packet for cultivating your own bitters at home.
