Harvesting a Home Apothecary: 6 Month Intensive

Classes & Events

Educational workshops are the bread and butter of Sweet Flag Herbs. In western New York, there is an abundance of medicinal and edible plants growing in every lawn, sidewalk crack, and wooded area. Sarah offers workshops about identifying, sustainably harvesting/cultivating, and making concoctions with these plants.

Sarah has experience offering programming for individuals of all ages and ability levels, including differently-abled individuals. If you are interested in scheduling an event or would like more info, visit the Contact Page to get in touch.

Harvesting a Home Apothecary: 6 Month Intensive

A Full-Day Intensive Series for the Beginner & Intermediate Herb Lover

2nd Saturday of the month for 6 months (April - Nov)

9:00am - 4:00pm
Location: Based in Hamburg. Class sites will vary.

I am excited to offer a program that walks participants through the entire process of thoughtful cultivation or wild-harvest, preparation, and safe & smart use of herbal remedies to complement healthy lifestyle choices.

In Harvesting a Home Apothecary, morning sessions will focus on getting to know plants in person, whether on a plant walk, in an herb garden, or at a garden center. In the afternoon, we will shift our focus to safe and effective remedy preparation.

Each month will focus on a different body system: the digestive system, nervous system + stress, immune + endocrine systems, cardiovascular system, hormones & the endocrine system, and the musculoskeletal system.

I believe it is vital to start with nutritional requirements and lifestyle factors before turning to herbs for support. Participants will receive detailed information about common nutritional deficiencies and lifestyle choices that may cause issues for each body system.

Each month features a different herbal preparation: herbal tinctures, vinegars, teas (infusions and decoctions), oils and salves, syrups and honey, and glycerites. Participants will prepare a different concoction each month using plants we harvest together and/or herbs I provide. By the end of six months, participants will have the knowledge to prepare a range of herbal remedies, and a budding home apothecary.

Stay tuned as details are finalized!
